Roadtrip 2023 Spring: Seaside - Waldport - Bend - Rock Creek Schoolhouse - Richland

Day 11 - Cape Perpetua: The Overlook

Seriously!? Those deck chairs won't be unstacked today.

The whispering spruce doesn't whisper today - more of a roar with these crazy strong winds. Ella howls in chorus.

Waaaayyyy down there - 101 winds through.

Looks like a gentle peaceful path - but don't be fooled - the trees are a rockin'.

Devil's Churn from waaay above. You can see the crazy approach trail on the cliffs.

Rain and trees.

The squalls continue - but fortunately for us they're staying off shore for now.

The Overlook, built in 1934 as a Depression-era make work project.

We take shelter from the squalls.

Rock shelter with the best view ever.

The squalls.

Waay down there is a house we once rented for a week: "Shipwreck House".

Surrealist ferns inch their way up an old cut log.

The array of greens are incredible.

Mix in a tinge of colour to make it extra interesting.

Lichen doesn't camouflage well.

Enormous trees stand defiantly at the Perpetua Lookout.

Hidden amongst the other undergrowth, the US Navy's Plant Based Radar mkII - now with synthetic aperture.
